This is a guide to assist in exploration and discovery within the massive, creepy and generally tough experience that is this Dark Souls open world game. The Tombsward Catacombs guide will dive into a straight forward explanation of what you’ll find within this area of the game. Whether that’s enemies, resources to gather or a boss battle.

As shown on the map below you’ll be heading over to the area of the Weeping Peninsula. The opening is a cave just below where the tree area is that you’d up to. It actually blends in quite well so you may miss it, this spot is just essentially right below the above tree boss.

When you do find the cave and head in you’ll find a grace point to use. From there head left and you’ll see a locked door so starting moving to the right from that point. In this initial room you’ll battle against a skeleton with a fire sword. Make sure you double tap all skeletons as they revive themselves. On the right within this room you’ll find some Grave Glovewort [1].

Just before leaving this first room you’ll also find a skeleton hugging against a wall alongside some Grave Glovewort [2]. The next room is down the stairs. Once there you’ll find to the right a bunch of Glovewort [1] and a skeleton. Three more skeletons are at the other end of the room and another Glovewort [1].

The next room has two more skeletons to battle within it and Glovewort [1] in the middle. There’s then going to be a fire trap as you head into the next room so use caution when exploring it. Timing is important to passing the fire and once you do get by it you’ll find Grave Violet in the corner of the fire room alongside another skeleton.

The room after that has three skeletons, a Glovewort [2] and a Prattling Pate “Thank You” item to gather. Go back to the fire room after collecting this stuff and jump on the fire pillar. You may have to wait a bit for it to drop or it seemed that slashing lowered it too. Ride that upwards and be careful of the fire throwing skeleton that’s up there.

There’s a rune on the body where that skeleton is too. The next room is empty with just Grave Violet to grab. The next room after that has two skeletons, one in front of you alongside Glovewort [2] and then a skeleton behind you from where you arrived in. The lever you need to open that first door is in the next area ahead, some Grave Violet too.

Head back to the start and go down the now opened door to see that haunting mist that means a boss battle is coming. This is a Cemetery Shade boss fight. It’ll give you a Lhutel the Headless item upon completion. To defeat this monster you need to be cautious and use timing. This enemy uses blades which can cause bleed effect if they hit you enough or go through you shield blocking. It also has teleportation and a bite attack.

A final aspect is magic which will stop you from being able to move. Best to roll or block but do be weary of that offensive slash attack through your shield. It shouldn’t take too long to complete this area, take the entrance back when you’re doing. I hope this helped your adventure within the magical lands of this game, best of luck with the rest of it.
