We finally got to see the mysterious Knights of Ren in action during The Rise of Skywalker and they were entirely useless. They really shouldn’t have bothered introducing this group as they do absolutely nothing in the film.
It’s actually somewhat funny as they seem like some intense boy band for Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) but after a strut down the halls of the Star Destroyer they do nothing at all. The stormtrooper that introduces them has more personality than any of the members within that group. It’s hilarious to see such a useless collection of characters in this one.
So you might be wondering what exactly they do for me to come to this point; and that’s the thing, nothing. They’re seen in the background wearing masked outfits and walking around. They look for people mostly, never find them or even interact with the main group of heroes. The only person they ever deal with is Ben Solo and he walks through them like they’re worthless towards the end. It’s quite a moment.
That aside, they don’t even have any motion or movement being still figures that just wander being given orders. I don’t see the point of them in the film aside from letting you know what happens to them franchise wise. They’re not unique, just cloaked figures that are somewhat there. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but thought they’d have some sort of mission or even contribute to the story at least. There’s a good amount of them too, with slightly different masks but you get zero context into any of them.
They are, just there. Its weird considered the build-up for their elite warrior mysticism, and they sit silently failing at any objective they’re given. They might as well have been the shadow Kylo Ren casts as he walks about. I wanted to dive into these characters further, but there’s nothing to them. At least Captain Phasma had a line or too. The stormtroopers that get shot and scream say more than this bunch. What a waste, but just something to please some fans I guess.
