Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is the epic start to the conclusion of the overall franchise. There’s certainly a deeper feeling of levity here as while the set pieces continue to be ever so exciting, you can tell there is a bit of a wind down starting to take effect.
It’s not necessarily as strong an experience as its predecessor, Fallout but it’s just such a fun ride on its own. Here we see Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his dealing with a dangerous AI that threatens global structure. It’ll take the squad making some moves, handling the most effective foe they’ve ever gone up against and confronting possible loss.
It’s a change of pace, one of excitement and of course spectacle with ridiculous stunts as we’re basically used to. The set pieces are grand in scale, and the chase continues to be a fun adventure to explore as everything starts to wind down. I actually can’t believe that the end is almost here, it’s been a great franchise.
The Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One 4k Blu-Ray comes with a number of special features. Both discs have a commentary option. These are available to view on the traditional Blu-Ray disc and also the 4k one.
This selection seemed slimmer in comparison to the previous release. It’s over thirty-minutes of extra features but alas I do recall Fallout having deeper looks into the behind the scenes portion. So here you do get a fuller dive into stunts and some brief looks at how some of the action came alive to make this picture.
The Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One 4k Blu-Ray package is an excellent penultimate experience as prepare for the franchise to close. I do wish there were some further behind the scenes components to this one, but the commentary is a nice addition. It’s a beautiful way to take in the film as the visual fidelity is high. It really makes the vast scale of the film feel exciting at home.
The crazy stunts, the moments of action and of course the wild twists that the franchise is known for. It’s an exciting film to watch and perhaps not as wild as Fallout but still a grand time all the same. It should be interesting to see how Dead Reckoning Part Two ends up, or whatever title they end up switching that up to when that time comes. Whatever the case, it’s been a wild ride with this series and it’s been neat to seeing what they offer to the crowd taking it home physically.
