Atari Flashback Classics Volume 3 Review

"More Old Pixels"

Campaign

Atari Flashback Classics Volume 3 is yet another pack of vintage titles from the various Atari platforms. This time around we have games that have been sourced from the Arcade, the 2600 and the 5200. They range from various years of gaming history, all compiled into one seamless experience. Enhancements have been made, you can play with others locally or online as well. It's an impressive upgrade, and it's neat to see some truly weird titles.

These are very obscure for a large portion of this package, but at the same time I felt this was the best of the compilations thus far. Here we get a good balance of some really unique experiences and a strangely large quantity of sports titles. Some of these are easier to play than others, it's just neat to see the history here. For some, this might be a revisit though for others a neat look at how far the industry has evolved over the many years.

Gameplay

I would typically go over the various graphic aspects or great environmental aspects in a game here though I imagine you know what you're getting with this release. These are the cleanest of graphics for what you can get with pixels either shining with video adjustments or feeling just like back in the Arcade. The default settings are a bit awkward for the titles, but that's easily adjusted in the menu so no issues there.

The Conclusion

The Atari Flashback Classics Volume 3 pack brings some solid games from a variety of vintage platforms, in one seamless package. I was a big fan of Frog Pond in this, lots of hilarious fun. There are some other great titles in this one and a plethora of the sports options. You get a good look at the history of the sports releases, there's actually some progression or well changes between them.

Overall they add some appreciated features and it's nice to see so many games piled together. There's a wide range of titles to play that feature a variety of genres. There are some gems here, and a number of odd games you probably won't care to play. I'd love to see an overall package at some point, would be amazing to see hundreds of Atari games in one glorious setup. For now, we get some nice stacked releases.
