At the Calgary Expo 2023 there was a David Harbour panel at the BMO Center main stage where he went over his career. It was mostly focused on a Q&A style presentation, with lots of questions and some good answers along the way.
While questions and answers were the focus, this one was certainly more structured than other panels. He started by going over how you can get typecasted as say the villain in Hollywood. It’s by how you look, but he enjoys embodying differing characters.
Then of course Stranger Things came into play where he enjoys a theory about Jopper, about how Hopper went to Vietnam during the war and Lonnie couldn’t be Jonathan’s father due to his tours ending and him connecting with Joyce. The series heads say that’s silly and not something they’ll use.
He never expected Stranger Things to become so popular since it seemed like Netflix wanted to bury the show. There were no ads, with Netflix claiming later that they wanted fans to have “ownership of the show” which he chuckles about since ads are everywhere now for it.
When it comes to Red Guardian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the beard is real whereas his stint as Santa Claus provided a fake beard. He’s not really interested in joining franchises, instead wanting to craft new ones that people can grow to love. That about sums everything up, we have additional panel and other coverage from the show in our hub.
