The Cities: Skylines experience continues to get built upon, this time with some modern elements at play. This Downtown Bundle pack contains two separate DLC packs to play with. The first is a content creator pack titled “Modern City Center” which adds to the aesthetic elements of your city featuring thirty-nine unique models for commercial type buildings.

The second is the “Downtown Radio” pack which provides sixteen original songs with a retro twist to them. Both help to expand the visuals and audio type of aspects for your city building. They’re neat additions and while get stylish in what they provide, a nice touch if this is your sort of thing.

I personally find them to be quite niche, if this is your game they’re well done. The Modern City Center pack from modder AmiPolizeiFunk will require you to create a special district, inspect the title and then choose the blue house icon in order to adjust the style to activate it. This will destroy existing structures, and replace them just so you’re warned. You do get some rather lovely looking buildings that come in however.

I loved the look of them, as they featured semi-transparent glass barriers and so many neat tweaks. There also wasn’t advertising on them, which was nice to see. The radio songs were fine, nice mix-up for what’s going on. I find the existing natural songs to be soothing enough, so another set to just chill out with. Definitely relaxing to chill with DJ Troy Anderson.

The Conclusion

The Downtown Bundle Expansion for Cities: Skylines delivers some quality aesthetic upgrades for the city building game. It does aim to fill somewhat of a niche being more visual or audio based in nature, but I’m sure the enthusiasts will love having access to a more natural modern looking city.

They did a great job with the building tweaks, they feel realistic and aren’t cluttered with the advertising. They have nice minor details as well which are neat to take in. The radio additions were soothing to listen to and fit in well. Keep in mind that either of these packs can be purchased separately, or within this bundled option.
