This is an interesting behind the scenes from ”The Art of Cuphead”. There was an unused character called Beetrice Lutz. This enemy was supposed to appear during the third or fourth phase of the Root Pack fight.
She wanted you out of her garden at any cost. The primary attack would have been her plucking beet babies from the ground and tossing them into her whirring leaves. She would then launch the resulting slices at you in arcs.
This character also featured a reference to a favorite character of the developers, that being Noah from the original Phantasy Star. In the original Japanese version of that game he was called Lutz. From the sketches they tired iterations with legs, or without them.
Definitely would have been an interesting character. It’s a shame it was cut, but that happens sometimes in development and it’s fascinating to see that included within the art book. Find our review of the game below, or check out the general hub for additional coverage of the title.
