Fallout 4: Contraptions Workshop Review

"Conveyer belts & Builder Machines"

Campaign

Fallout 4 is hitting decent notes with its story based DLC yet I I'm finding these smaller workshop additions to be less useful. This Contraptions Workshop is a neat idea adding some pieces that you can make running machines with for better settlement efficiency, yet for the general player they're not really going to care.

This is truly one of those more decorative packs that adds a bit extra style and is completely useless for general use. The pack contains a number of logic and machine based items from which you can create conveyer belt areas and processing machines. These are neat as I went through building a pile of steel balls and some players will make neat items, I just don't see the regular player caring though really as even I won't give these another glance.

To the side of the fancy new machines we have some more practical items including easy-to-use building pieces for warehouses, barns or box cars. I can see those being something everyone might like to build with, yet there isn't a ton there to work with.

Additionally we're given access to some new holder type items for weapons, clothing and power armor which for a PC player is something you'd already have in a general free mod. That aside we're also given some smaller fun items such as firework shells or paintball weapons and these are more on the silly end of things.

Fallout 4: Contraptions Workshop

The Conclusion

This is once again something nice for the console players to enjoy granting them some solid basic items and extra fun tools to use as well. PC players will most likely have fun with the conveyer belts and logic pieces to create fancy machines though I don't feel they're quite worth the extra bit of cost.

That being each of these items will just be fun for now instead of being useful for the long term. Some players might create some efficient processing machines, though just your typical wasteland survivor will care little for what's included in this pack.

I like the concepts and there are some nice items available within the Contraptions pack, I just don't feel it's got enough to it in order to make this a necessary part of your wasteland. I will however end with the pillory being a fun item as I was able to stockade some annoying settlers within it and teach them a lesson!
