I'd say that this is the first true DLC expansion for Fallout 4 taking us to a brand new island that's packed with mystery and intrigue. Going off a tip at Valentine's agency you set out to go and find this girl that has run off from her family. You quickly learn that a group of Synths have been in contact with her and that there are many other factions that roam across this new island.
It's actually quite a great pack that features a widely branching story filled with many choices I didn't expect to see in aside from the story in this game. The story branches wind around each of the separate island factions and it'll be up to you to decide the best course of action with the information you gain while adventuring.
Aside from a wide array of core and side quests there's also a ton to do as the island itself is massive. It's also quite spooky with radiated mists and at its best as night when some crazy creatures come into play. I was however quite pissed off with a segment where you're hacking memories as it was the worst experience I've ever had in a Fallout game and might be one of the most memorably bad segments of a game I've ever played.
It involves moving cubes around to hack things which was slow, boring, awkward as hell to use on console and killed the pace of the story. This was seriously bad, like really bad enough to the point that it ruined Far Harbor for me. That aside the rest of the DLC is so good and the island is also just amazing to experience. I'd also like to mention that this is very much a Valentine focused story so you may want to take him along for a bit more rounded of a tale.
The hacking segment was truly bad and I don't normally get hung up on things like that in a game, but when you play it you'll see just how awful and painful it was to do. It was just absolutely mind numbing, that aside the story of Far Harbor was well done offering great variation in story lines with characters that you grow to care about. Each of the causes had interesting perspectives and you needed to really do some quest for each to decide what exactly you should do.
The island itself offers this massive landmass to explore filled with deadly radiation mist pockets and very swampy lands to move across. It's also a bit more of cinematic DLC with some fully done discussions, actions and many digging sequences to point you feel as though you might be a pirate. For those wanting a true campaign expansion then this is the perfect DLC to pick-up for Fallout 4 and try not to let the mind numbing hacking sequence get you down.
