Forza Motorsport 7 is a remarkable racing game that really is the ultimate combination of what the series has been working towards the entire generation. It brings ground breaking realism, graphics and a massive combination of vehicles to race with. There's a type of car for everyone with each being perfectly and realistically captured within the game. This latest entry is a shining example of just what Xbox can bring and this update makes it only more stunning. The Forza Motorsport 7 Xbox One X enhancement brings the game to native 4k (3840x2160) with 60fps across the experience.
It has also received HDR support making those stunning skylines ever so bright and the dark of night ever closer to a true darkness. This game really does look amazing whether you play on standard hardware or step it up with the enhanced version of the game. While playing I worked through a couple quick races while selecting a plethora of weather conditions. This included some regular day levels across multiple environments, night driving and some of the dynamic rain weathering. I felt that these selections would best represent the most graphic intensive parts of the game.
The game really does have some sort of special glow to it whether you're admiring the effect of the HDR against the world or the way lights now illuminate. The sun of the Dubai course blinds, the bright array of colors from the darker Yas Marina at night are eye catching and the sloppy wet track of Circuit de Spa demands full attention.
The dynamic rain that flys over through crazy clouds is just indescribable in 4k. The way it randomly layers puddles, splashes against the cars and creates reflections is stunning. I've never seen a weather condition so true to life and I can't wait to see how they evolve it in future entries. The night levels were fantastic, it was just pitch black except the lights from the cars, the smaller little lights present on the side lines and the bright lit buildings that covered the backdrop.
The trees of levels looking stunning, the background geometry is full of depth and all the textures in this release are amazing. It's like this across the widespread set of levels, the intense detail of the cars and the entire smooth presentation. They really did nail this update and it clearly shows across all aspects of the experience. I'll also make another mention of Prague as I have in basically every Forza 7 article, it's just something else.
In this higher resolution those already gorgeous architectural details only get better and the billboards stand out even more. It's pure art and a must have trip for anyone that even gives this racer a try. It's a track that often used, but the way the game presents it is just something else. This is clearly the best way to play any racing game on a console and Forza continues to completely dominate the genre.
