The Gears 5 multiplayer definitely has some server issues, and here’s a guide for fixing any problems you might come across. This includes the 0x0000c31 issue that shows up when just trying to play. You may also see “error - an error has occurred. please try again later. “
This type of issue is fairly standard, and perhaps not a halting point for your enjoyment of this fifth main entry. We all want to just settle in and play multiplayer, but it’s not always necessarily that easy.
The first attempt for getting past this is to back into the main menu and then try to join in. If that doesn’t work, often just closing the game and starting it up again will make it function. If that doesn’t work, try a hard reset of the console. That means having the Xbox restart itself. If these methods don’t work, it’s likely that the servers are down due to overload, general problems or Xbox Live being down.
If the service is down, check out The Coalition’s Twitter for updates, or the Xbox.com server update site. Hopefully these quick tips for getting around the problem assist you in getting in. Like mentioned, most of the time just closing and opening the game makes it work. Sometimes I’ve done it twice, and then I was finally able to get in.
