This is a rather simplistic sort of experience, but also one that’s largely perfect for the younger audience. It’s mostly just motion control based allowing for some exercise while at the same time not being wild enough to have you worried about joy-cons being thrown across the room. The just of this is that you’re attempting to run a band of gem nosed creatures.
You collect more of them by completing the levels and build up a sort of stable. They slightly adjust the musical experience and this is all original music too which is nice to have. I was actually pleasantly surprised that for the most part the songs were solid and again, for the target audience quite appropriate. Once you do get these gem nosed critters you’ll need to setup their room by unpacking bags and perhaps even decorating it further in the future.
The levels themselves range from rhythm based joy-con movements to cooking things such as hamburgers and an array of other smaller mini games. You can even go back in a freeplay capacity for more or try harder difficulty options. Very simplistic for sure, yet something I can see a particular younger group enjoying thoroughly. I do think the age threshold for this is somewhat low, just keep that in mind.
The visuals do a decent job of providing a fantasy world, and they feature an alright amount of depth to the quality. They’re certainly vibrant, featuring a good use of color. The creatures seem to represent their real life counterparts in a fine way, of course including a gem since that’s right from the title.
You get everything from jaguars to regular dogs and other miscellaneous animals that all have their own style. They also dance alongside the music most of the time which adds some style. When performing you’ll do basic motion movements from shakes, to mid air placements or even cutting to a degree. I found it to be accurate, yet easy going enough not to cause any frustration.
Geminose: Animal Popstars is an ok experience, for a particularly young audience with a highlight being its original music compilations. It isn’t super complex, but it gets the job done. It’s definitely not designed for someone like me, but I appreciate what it’s aiming for and I believe in that way, it has achieves its aim. It’s definitely just a fine setup, and it does guide you well enough.
