Side by Side Comparison Technical Notes
This is the next gen offering for Grand Theft Auto V which is provided through a standalone purchase of the game. This feature an Optimized for the consoles experience and a few differing graphic options. I will firstly note that while the Xbox Series X features ray tracing in Fidelity and Performance RT, the Xbox Series S does not.
It’s not much of a deal though as it’s light shadowing that’s quite honestly not too noticeable which is such a shame. Both options feature native HDR implementation as opposed to Auto HDR that was featured prior. Texturing has been improved in a number of situations. There’s also migration of accounts and subtle upgrades such as with lighting.
You might notice some increases to the draw distance, but alas the two consoles are very similar there with perhaps only some minor pop-in elements differing the two options here. So let’s break down the options we have between the two consoles. Fidelity mode is present on both and a native target at 60fps. The Xbox Series X gets the full 4k resolution whereas the Xbox Series S is set to 1440p and both modes seem stable across the experience.
Performance mode is also present for both targeting 60fps and providing 1440p on Xbox Series X whereas the Xbox Series S is getting 1080p. Both seemed quite stable. Finally there’s the Performance RT featured on Xbox Series X whereas the Xbox Series S does not have this option. It’s 1440p dynamic at 60fps with the light shadowing effect, stable as well.
