This is a special Halloween event, it’s Haunted Calgary 2021 which runs through October on weekends. It is a haunted house experience that is present within the underground parkade of the New Horizon Mall.

It’s easier to access if you drive in or go through from the ground floor of the mall. I suggest the former, you can park in there and then walk over to the selected area. It’s heated, so you should be relatively warm while taking in the experience. This is an event that requires a mask due to Covid protocols, alongside needing proof of vaccination.

This is also queued based on times, so you’ll have a certain slot to jump in on. I will note that it’s best to arrive early, as the line-up I waited in took about forty-five minutes. It was a lengthy wait, but actually quite worthwhile as this is very well done.

It’s a scaled down version of their usual events from pre-covid times, but actually expanded upon in comparison to last year’s drive-in experience. It’s a singular haunted house, should take about fifteen to twenty minutes to tour based on your speed. It’s actually quite scary, with very well placed jump scares and regular haunts. The production value of the environments is really good, and the acting is fantastic. I genuinely got some good jumps at least a few times here.

Props to the shocking lady, she’s really into it and looked terrifying. There’s also themes to the different areas you visit while walking throughout this area. Some are dark, others use lighting to their advantage to create a unique atmosphere. There’s neat sound being played, and voice from those you’ll see while touring. It’s well spaced out in terms of the folks around you, I never saw any other group while I was touring.

Haunted Calgary 2021
It was in general a delightfully horrifying time! It provided a fun experience, and I think it’s probably the best spooky option we have in the city. Seriously, production value and acting was they nail it. There’s also a small gift shop towards the end of your tour, they have some neat items there.

I thought the shirts were quite well priced. I do feel they should have some sort of scares or entertainment for the line-up, but other than that it all went smooth and was an enjoyable experience once I got into the house area. I would definitely tour again, and am very much looking forward to seeing what they do with the event once things get back to normal.

They’ve created some really fun spaces in the past, and really make this one work this year. Again, it’s probably your best scare city wise from what I’ve seen.
