Jack N' Jill DX Review

"Simplistic"

Campaign

Jack N' Jill DX is a one button platformer set within the most basic of environments. It might come across as too simplistic, but there's actually a fair bit of challenge here. The game features 140 levels of action spread across multiple worlds. It's actually a rather impressive quantity and the difficulty scales quickly as you begin progressing through them. There are also arcade mini games to enjoy that switch up the formula.

From there you're able to unlock additional costumes to customize either of the characters that you can play as across the experience. If that's not enough, a mirror mode option can be selected to mix things up further. Again, it sounds like a simple setup though there's a lot to do. The levels are well varied and really do offer something new as you continue to platform through them. It might actually take a number of tries to complete as you'll restart at the beginning each time.

Gameplay

The visuals are basic, it looks like something you'd play on an early portable handheld. I'd say there's a charm to it, but there really isn't. It does look fine to some degree, at least the style they chose though it's so plain. There are some problems to deal with as you'll need to switch directions to progress while watching out for timing with the traps. It's a simple setup, yet one with complexity as you aim to time events to survive. While playing you're able to collect coins on levels and depending the path you take, you will see various splits in the levels.

The Conclusion

Jack N' Jill DX is a basic one touch platformer, it doesn't have a lot to it while surprisingly being stacked with levels. There's a good amount of challenge and value there considering the quantity. The arcade games are also really simple, but help build out the package in new ways. The world is rather drab, but I suppose it fits the entirely simplistic style chosen for this experience. The idea of movement is easy going, yet they've backed it up with a lot while providing challenges that can surprise at times.
