It’s time to feast as Kirby and pals come along for one wild eating fest. This is a multiplayer oriented game where players will compete against each other in order to consume the most delicious food. It really does look great, with high levels of detail in the snacks and a certain nice simplicity to it.

While it is designed for online multiplayer play in a battle royale format it works fine playing locally against the AI as well. There is an option for some local play, but this one does feel geared towards online competition. With that, it is a bit more barebones than you might be used to but at the same time value wise it’s not too bad.

It has some replay value to it, but your time will vary based on how into it you are. It’s best in small bursts essentially. There are a fair quantity of maps present that you’ll race along and some variety in the modes. You can enjoy a more setup structured competition or just quick eats with things such as races or mini games.

Gameplay

Here you’ll play as Kirby, or well your personalized take on the character as you gather cosmetics to change up your look. The movement and style is very simplistic, you move forward and automatically eat things in your path. Typically you’ll be gobbling up delicious strawberries but you’ll come across cakes to consume as well. The world itself is fairly magical in terms of the visual quality and style.

You’ll whip across ever so many distinct treats that all look strangely edible. I was hoping for a higher frame rate though at 30fps feels somewhat slow. Additionally while good looking the resolution comes across as jagged which is of course expected for the Nintendo Switch. I would love to see a higher resolution take on this someday as the art direction is excellent. Those undocked will find this quite sharp though.

The Conclusion

Kirby's Dream Buffet is a scrumptious trip through eating the calorie filled deserts in life, but alas may feel somewhat light for those wanting something deeper. It’s a quick, fun party game that you can find some value in but that’s going to differ person to person.

I actually personally found it quite boring at times, but I can see how many others will find it fun. The highlights were certainly the attractive treats, fun customization and silly action. It’s got a solid amount of content for a lower cost point so I think it’s generally good to go with if you’re looking for fun.
