Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is a really great pick-up for the Nintendo Switch, and it’s definitely a surprising exclusive. This is also surprisingly being developed by KOEI TECMO’s Team Ninja, very interesting for sure.
The game is focused on cooperative play whether you’re experiencing that alone, or with others with local and online four player multiplayer. This can be done on the same screen, or using multiple systems. I mention by yourself, because you pick a squad, and then swamp between them on the fly.
This will feature a wide range of super heroes from the Marvel Universe featuring basically everyone. There are the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men and more. There are even teases of DLC content which includes the Fantastic Four, more X-Men and Marvel Knights. This is available through a paid expansion pass, interesting that’s being showcased before release.
The game features a brand new original story and from what I played this is going to be solid. It feels like the past entries, and just expands it further. There’s a large roster and I was able to select my squad before hopping in for some epic action. My team consisted of Spider-Man; Deadpool, Captain Marvel and Iron Man. This was a solid squad, and I enjoyed swinging around as Spider-Man with those invisible ceilings to web from. Just a little joke, but ya it plays great. It was a lot of fun and I quite enjoy this series. It’s neat to see it head to the Nintendo Switch, especially with an expanded roster that brings so many possiblites.
The benefits of a larger Marvel Cinematic Universe through the acquisition of Fox are clearly shown here as they’re more likely to use some of those classic characters again. The visuals were fine for the most part, and it largely seemed smooth. I was only able to play this while docked and it was solid on the screen. The characters have a variety of abilities and seeing them unleashed look excellent. That’s all for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, at least for now.
