Mutant Football League: Dynasty Edition Review

"Monster Ball"

Campaign

Mutant Football League: Dynasty Edition is a revamped iteration on the game that's filled with new content for a physical release. This package expands the scope of the initial release and it's solid. This is the style of Football you know, but with some dirty tricks thrown in. You're able to play as a series of fantasy type teams across a plethora of really strange arenas. It's a good mock of the current NFL and they have fun with that.

There are your typical exhibition options for both local, and online multiplayer matches. There's a full dynasty mode with multiple seasons and that was fun. You're going week to week battling the best, resurrecting fallen players and stacking your squad with points. It works well, and there's a lot to it. That may not sound like a ton to do, but it's well presented and it feels very adequate. I also liked how they presented possible multiplayer options while you were playing, good way to keep the online action going.

Gameplay

Going back to the dirty tricks, this area is a big part of the game. You're able to do crazy things such as bribing the ref, having a player be on literal fire or perhaps making players massive. It was initially the worst thing in the world, but once I embraced and therefore learned these options it was a blast. They really do mix things up and while you will be frustrated when you first see it.

It really is a neat twist that matches the crazy style of play. The characters are awesome, they can die in such gruesome ways. The arenas all look different and there was true dedication in designing these, there are even traps to come across while running. It plays like regular Football titles, handles quite well with many twists. I did notice there were performance problems such as a screen tearing on Xbox One X, this was mostly during cinematic moments.

The Conclusion

Mutant Football League: Dynasty Edition is a really fun take on the sport providing some dirty tricks and a dedicated selection of disgusting creatures to play as. They really did a good job on the rosters, the arenas and the ways your poor squad can die. They have a decent selection of modes to play with support for local or online multiplayer.

I did find the audio presentation a bit repetitive after a number of matches, but still quite funny. It handled well feeling like a typical simulation of the sport, but with twists you grow to enjoy. I did have some minor issues with the performance, but it was mostly just present during cinematic segments. It's a fine take on the sport, definitely something different if you want to experience a similar yet wildly different football game.
