Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The Pillar Review

"Bolts of Lightning"

Campaign

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The Pillar is the second DLC released for the game that continues the adventures of Lara Croft's latest release. This is a side mission that's activated by visiting the underground base where the resistance has been building. Lara is tasked with collecting this shield that both factions are after. The quest giver apparently doesn't have much time on their hands, so we need to go find this. It's a rather short mission, yet a dangerous one that involves lots of cliff climbing.

This mission also brings the lightning with intense background scenes and an interesting use of wind against what you're doing. It's a mix of distinct and challenging climbing, against some fairly generic combative segments. There are some moments for stealth, and of course more enemies to take out as you battle for this shield of symbolism. Extra coop or solo challenges are also once again present if you need something else to play aside from this bit of narrative. In the general story I'm not sure this adds much, but I suppose it has some extra background for the resistance.

The Conclusion

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The Pillar is a solid extra that adds a short bit of extra story to playthrough and some additional challenge options. It may not be a ton of content, or really factor into the story yet it's great to continue Lara's adventures here. This is definitely an odd one due to where it takes place in the time line, and while I don't understand the inclusion I suppose it expands the general tale.

We didn't get the strongest extra, but the areas felt rough and different. There were some decent puzzles included, and some extra combative sequences. Again, nothing amazing yet a nice additional mission to play through and the challenges are good fun. You can play that alone, or with someone else in coop within a couple modes to keep score. Story wise this was alright, felt they could have done more yet I enjoyed the setting.
