This is a rather zen like game where you’re a little bird that skateboards. It’s a larger than life setup where you go about completing missions to unlock new areas that you can explore. There is a light bit of story where you’re trying to help the big one get their groove back and in general it’s actually rather quite cute.
It’s not anything too deep when it comes to the story aspects, but it’s an easy going fun sort of time. As mentioned you’ll complete a series of small objectives. These range from gathering certain things, pulling off tricks and in general using the area that you’re in to its full advantage. You start off in a bedroom environment, then move to a rooftops and there are a few different spots you can end up visiting. The loading between spots is fairly slow, but once in its open to explore to tackle further missions.
You will basically skateboard around as a little bird. The design of that bird is entirely up to you with some great customization options. Mine had a pirate hat on, that was funny. There are some fairly in-depth trick options to pull off, similar to say a Tony Hawk game. That’s matched with a partial ability to fly and some really zen tunes going off in the background.
A neat one about birds and what not, that was entertaining to listen to. The mechanics seemed to handle well, and the visuals captured that Honey I Shrunk the kids style quite well except it’s just properly scaled to that of a small bird. You’ll also have some bird friends to interact with and it’s fairly to easy to jump into, or well understand what you’re doing I suppose you could say.
SkateBird is a very cute, zen like skateboarding game that takes the concept of the Tony Hawk games and adds a tad bit of small bird charm to it. It was rather entertaining as you board around as this little customized bird making chirps and doing extreme tricks. It was fun to play around with and it offers a decent amount of content to enjoy.
I certainly found it to be rather intriguing, and I think it’s rather accessible for any type of audience to dive into. It might be somewhat limited in content, but I feel you get your value out of it. Except a fairly straight forward type of bird skateboarding time and I think you’ll find this one has something to offer you.
