Interview with Nadji Jeter, Actor for (Miles Morales) in Spider-Man 2

For call based interviews we try to present the conversation replies as close to verbatim as possible, for context.

A staple I do in all interviews in order to start things off is to ask that you elaborate a bit about yourself and your roles?

Nadji: I'm Nadji Jeter from The Last of Us playing Sam and from Playstation’s Spider-Man Miles Morales hope y'all doing amazing out there. We are in Calgary, Canada, Fan Expo having a blast and I'm loving every minute of it, I love it every minute of it.

When you’re approaching roles from a traditional show or movie angle versus gaming performances, how does that differ?

Nadji: The gaming performances you have to use a lot of your imagination you know, it's a lot of open world and we're in a huge warehouse where you have like ninety cameras around you so you're using all that imagination because you don't have the onset feel in the location of you know, seeing what you have to interact with. Like props or anything like that so it is more of a mental switch and more of a mental, I guess type of thing you have to tap into as far as imagination.

When you first stepped in to do Miles Morales did you anticipate you’d be getting a spin-off game and that you’d be doing multiple Spider-Man games?

Nadji: Well I did not, no. I did not man, I started off on Disney XD and really that's where I thought you know, it was going to be the end-all you know then they made their transition from you know Disney XD to Disney Plus. Playstation said, hey we're doing something over here and we'd like to be a part of it. I said oh yeah, but it's been going great man.

How have things changed from you first stepping into the character, going from not being Spider-Man to now being your own Spider-Man?

Nadji: We got to grow with Miles. I got to grow with Miles for sure for sure. So I started off at seventeen and I was playing at thirteen years old so we got to grow with him in school, we got to go through his community, through his changes.

So now I think being Spidey now is like his stuff. It's okay we are here, he's still growing now. He's still a grown boy, he hasn't fully developed everything yet but it’s been a great growth and great transition because I mean we've been through it. I've been through, we know what a boy goes through and grows up from a teenager to the younger man doing his own, you know what I mean.

Obviously there’s going to be a Spider-Man coming out this year, where do you think he’s going to be mentally going into this next game?

Nadji: Ya’ll gotta find out.

That’s totally, at the end of Miles Morales did you feel he was more confident?

Nadji: Yeah, I would like say that. How do you feel? I would say yes.

What are some of the differences between doing say a cinematic moment where you’re talking a lot, and something more like you’re running around the open world?

Nadji: I mean; well take that takes me back to you know, what I said earlier as far as just using that imagination because you don't have, you know the location of that I see. So when you’re in that cinematic world, yeah you have like maybe a box or like a fake duct tape like cup or something like that. They'll tell you okay; this is you know, that's a glass, that's a mug or this is a car that's a building.

So you really have to listen to the direction and then use your imagination and make it seem real. You know what I mean, so when being on set you have the actual physical things that you can touch and hold. So it's definitely a different feeling, but we've all had a kid imagination before you know what I'm saying so it's like right, it's that right there.

What’s a memorable moment for you from playing the character, whether you’re doing like a certain voice line or something behind the scenes was fun?

Nadji: I want to say stunts. They give me a lot of leverage as far as having fun on set. Like I've gotten a couple of scars, scrapes on my knees. Cause I like being method, you know being in the booth for four hours. I like doing everything like punching, like jumping and like actually getting the motion feel of it. So I mean, hey man that's probably the best part of it, the physicality.

What’s it like to see yourself as a character on the screen, or character in a video game?

Nadji: It is a trip. I mean, it is a trip. The Last of Us I got to play as myself so I got to play, that was a trip. You know, you just walking around (hand gestures as if holding a controller) and yeah it's different. I mean, it makes me go harder. That's it like, I get to see y'all and you know I get to you that love and that I'm impacting with the game and it's just makes me want to keep going for y'all.

Lastly I would like to leave a spot for you to say something or go over anything I might have missed during the interview?

Nadji: Spider-Man 2 coming out 2023. Get ready, y'all better get ready. You better get ready. My boy Jason; Gamerheadquarters, Fan Expo 2023 Calgary, Canada.
