Starfield Dream Home Guide

Within the world of Starfield, the Dream Home trait is one of the initial options you can choose when starting to play. It’s something I would recommend grabbing as it offers by far the best piece of real estate available to the game at launch. While I am sure that modders will eventually broaden our land owning horizons, this is really a great area thing to grab.

I’ve also included a video that tours and talk about it in depth but I want to cover key points about what you’re getting here. When you pick the trait you’ll get a quest that directs you to the planet the house is on alongside a split quest sending you to the mortgage handler. The location of the planet is in the Olympus system on Nesoi.

It’s a tranquil spot and one right near the core systems that you’ll visit when working through the main narrative. The mortgage handler is present on New Atlantis, where the entire mortgage will cost you 125,000 credits to pay off. That seems like a lot right from the start but over time you’ll realize it really isn’t all that bad.

Now, I will mention in bolded letters, that going to new game plus will entirely wipe your house and make you repay for your mortgage. So I hope that aspect was clear, don’t waste hours designing things if you’re going into a new game plus at some point. The house itself is spacious, offering a large main floor fitted with a kitchen and then also a lounging multi-layered section.

There’s a bathroom on the first floor and one on the second. It’s strange that it doesn’t follow modern housing standards with a bathroom in the master bedroom, but oh well. With that, the second level has a lounging area and also two bedrooms. There’s also connections to an outside loading area that can’t be adjusted like inside the house can be. You really can do whatever you want within the space, whether that’s drop items or build stuff.

It functions similarly to an outpost but you do lose some functionality in that regard. It’s a very straight forward sort of offering in terms of what you get and I do highly recommend checking it out since few spaces in the game offer so much freedom for customization. It’s like The Sims in Space! Though past that, it’s a great space for storing resources. It’s a bit awkwardly away from larger ships which is rough and the transfer of inventory isn’t ideal but it’s a neat area to call your own.

I should also mention that to build you can either choose the panel right across from where you enter, or you can open your scanning tool and select decorate to have the same level of functionality. Good luck with your housing choices, I hope they’re rewarding. For more in-depth personalization and a visual representation do check out my video guide.
