Strange Brigade - The Thrice Damned 2: The Sunken Kingdom Review

"So Many Bugs"

Campaign

Strange Brigade - The Thrice Damned 2: The Sunken Kingdom sends the epic adventure group back into the fight with a bug type theme. They're working to collect pieces of a mystical shield and this is the second portion of that mission. Here the group is exploring some deadly tight cave type areas. This is a much more claustrophobic and difficult area to complete. There are challenging waves of creatures in more confined spaces. I thought this was a much better setup than the previous entry introducing some new trap type areas such as a deadly maze and some interesting puzzles to the side.

It really is cave focused, but with a twist as you run into a large scale lost city and they do have some gorgeous visuals within this environment. The level also came across as longer than the previous release, could have been due to the more challenging situations present. There's also the Japanese Naval Officer Character Expansion Pack, which introduces character Hachiro Shimizu, a master survivalist which includes the Mikhailov 38-rifle, the Marchador TT pistol, the Shock Grenade special item and Decaying Demon Blast amulet power with the DLC.

The Conclusion

Strange Brigade - The Thrice Damned 2: The Sunken Kingdom is a fine addition to the game with an exciting and challenging new level to play. This is a bug filled, claustrophobic level and I was surprised by the setup as I traditionally just dashed through most of this game. Instead, you're given more of a block and some options as you move through it.

This also came across as a longer level and it had some neat complexity to it. I enjoyed the small, yet deadly maze that was a key point and the use of bats was fun. It continues to carry that charm the core game has and while it might just be another level, it's an enjoyable yet challenging one to play. The side puzzles were neat, and generally this flowed well as we continue to battle towards the completion of the mystical shield.
