The Path of Motus Review

"Drab Path"

The Path of Motus is a very simple platforming game about bullying. It follows one person as they grow in various stages of life and trying to reach their dreams. How you battle through situations will slightly alter the world and path the character will take. It's a bland sort of experience with little bits of words flying across the screen. It's not a very long game, but there is depth if you want to see how both sides can play out.

You'll see both for sure if you're hunting after Achievements in this one. That aside, there are some secrets to uncover and a number of puzzles to complete. The puzzles are simple and math based, which will create bridges. The story was just somewhat alright hitting key parts of what might happen in an individual's life depending on how they treat moments that come across them.

You mostly just walk around and hop occasionally. There weren't any difficult platforming parts unless you were trying to be careful not to cause problems for those spitting mad heat at you. It's mostly jump and spit out words, then continue along until you need to jump again.

It was fairly plain and at times stiff in terms of movement. The art style was alright, I didn't find it to be anything special. It captured the locations, but didn't do anything different with them. The music was fine, somewhat creepy at times and the one track was annoying where it was telling you to give up among other comments.

The Conclusion

The Path of Motus wasn't that great of a time being a very bland experience while not digging into the core message enough for a better impact. I like the idea of what they were going for here with words being a weapon, except that should have had more attention.

It's interesting to see your interactions alter the narrative, but again I didn't feel that impact. The regular gameplay is somewhat lackluster being boring as well. It's not long, covers key points of a life and could have used more complexity.
