The 1992 Aladdin comes alive like never before with this 4k Blu-Ray release. It’s rather nice to see the continued re-releases of these classic animated shows in 4k, with HDR support as they look far better than ever before. That continues with this well known classic that contained the legendary genre defining voice performance by Robin Williams.
He plays the magic genie from the lamp and just unleashes memorable moments every single time that the character graces the screen. There’s tons of depth, emotion and variety to this particular performance with it still standing out today. Past that, this is an interesting tale of a thief that tries to move up in society. This is set in motion only due to the evil desires of a man that wants absolute power.
Having this thief named Aladdin to collect a special lamp of wishes, sets in motion the unleashing of a powerful being of both humor and excitement. There’s never a dull moment, and for the most part this tale still holds strong over the years.
Aladdin 4k Blu-Ray comes with a number of special features. These are available to view on the traditional Blu-Ray disc as opposed to the 4k one. They include the following selections that can be viewed as a bundle or individually. "Sing-Along Mode”, “Alternate Ending”, “Aladdin on Aladdin”, “Let’s Not Be Too Hasty”, “Outtakes from the Genie” and more.
I will mention that the aspect ratio on this particular release means it does not cover the full screen. It has some black bars around the far side edges of the screen. You don’t really notice that after awhile. The 4k resolution with HDR does wonders to the original quality, it looks great. The extras were fairly plentiful, wish they would have been included on the full 4k disc as it’s annoying to have to switch over to enjoy them. The sing-along could have at least been included on the 4k disc. That being said, there are some neat behind the scenes on this and the extras help paint a deeper picture as to the full possible ending to this story.
The Aladdin 4k Blu-Ray package brings a decent selection of extra special features and one classic animated film with some great enhancements. It really does come alive with the upgraded resolution and HDR support. The film itself still holds up well with an interesting story, and one truly iconic performance from Robin Williams.
It had been some time since I last viewed this film, and it was rather exciting to see him once again deliver with such enthusiasm while still having some more sorrowing moments during those parts of the film. The music is excellent here, some songs that carry the film and help add to the long lasting charm that this film clearly has attached to it. It’s the best way to experience this movie, and it’s still a very interesting one. Rub that lamp, and give it a whirl.
