This was my first time watching My Fair Lady and I have to say it’s one of the best films I’ve ever watched. A true spectacle of cinematic beauty using musical moments to the perfect degree and having such a well balanced structure of narrative with superb acting. It’s headed by the simply stunning Audrey Hepburn who has never looked better than in this upgraded quintessence of film.
This is derived from an 8k scan of the original negative 65mm shot footage. I was blown away by the visual quality of this 4k mastering, it is cleaner than some of the movies I’ve watched in modern cinema. This helps you to become further immersed in this unique and beautiful story.
It follows Eliza (Hepburn) as she’s transformed from the lower end of society into a high end toast of London society in the era. This is ushered in by an elitist Professor Higgins (Rex Harrison). The use of style and music here is fantastic in what’s a glorious demonstration of just what movies can achieve. The 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio really added to that quality, and this is such a well put together package.
The My Fair Lady 4k Blu-Ray comes with a number of special features. These are available to view on the traditional Blu-Ray disc as opposed to the 4k one. The selections on the traditional disc include the following options that can be viewed individually.
“More Lovely Than Ever”; “1963 Production Kick-Off Dinner”, “Los Angeles Premiere”, “British Premiere”, “George Cukor Directs Baroness Bina Rothschild”, “Production Tests” and some other smaller options as well.
There are fine options to get insight into some of the magic behind this one. The full 4k Blu-Ray features HDR support alongside a native 4k image with high levels of visual quality and contrast that no other format has been able to capture at this point. The case is clean and fairly standard for the specific format.
The My Fair Lady 4k Blu-Ray package is a simply gorgeous presentation of this classic film, achieving visual heights never seen in prior releases. I was blown away not only by the film itself as this was my first viewing, but also the pristine presentation that was possible here. It looked as though it had just released which is such a delightful visual treat.
It holds up remarkably well from the music to the acting and just how smooth it presents on the modern visual format. I believe the talent behind the original would be thrilled by just how incredible this comes across. Such a treat to the eyes.
