Ant-Man and the Wasp is another follow-up within the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wasp jumping right into the action from the start. This is a more intimate tale that's less about universe building and more about family. It's essentially a giant chase film as everyone is after one another for various reasons. You have Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) under house arrest after being Ant-Man in Captain America: Civil War. His close friends are on the run due to this and he's just chilling.
Things go wrong after he sees some visions and then we get a voyage into finding out what these visions mean. There's lots of action and a ton of comedy as this really leans into that aspect. There are some great characters here with Ghost being a blast to see in action and having some really defined reasons behind her actions. To the side of that is the Ant crew and then their equally antagonistic annoyed group of regular folks wanting to steal the tech. It's crazy, and just a lot of fun being a solid next entry in this smaller franchise within the greater MCU.
The Ant-Man and the Wasp Blu-Ray comes with a number of special features. These are available to view on the traditional single disc setup unlike in 4k where it would be split. The extras include the following selections that can be viewed as a bundle or individually. For making of featurettes there's "Back in the Ant Suit: Scott Lang"; "A Suit of Hero Own: The Wasp", "Subatomic Super Heroes: Hank & Janet", "Quantum Perspective: The VFX and Production Design".
Other extras include a "Gag Reel", "Stan Lee Outtakes", "Tim Heidecker Outtakes", two short deleted scenes with optional commentary and audio commentary with Director Peyton Reed. There's certainly a plethora of content here and it was a pleasure to watch. Quite a fan of the Ant-Man films so it was neat to see the development behind various characters, the extra gag based scenes and the commentary option. I was however a tad disappointed by the deleted scenes as they were so short.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is a really great chase movie being an intimate entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this disc is full of extra features. I was impressed with the featurettes as they cover the key elements of the film and the gag reel was a lot of fun to watch. It certainly added some extra value to what was already a really enjoyable film.
This mini series within the MCU is a treat to view having so many funky things to showcase with action packed fights and grounded characters that you feel for. There's a father wanting to do right by his daughter, a family that wants their missing parent back and another that just wants to the pain to go away. They all chase each other and are joined by one regular guy that wants to be part of the mix. It's well done, it looks great in terms of visual quality and is a good story.
