Mean Girls is definitely a well known comedy, and for Mean Girls Day they’ve got a special new Blu-Ray re-release of the title. This is a pink covered case, and it contains some extras. This is an interesting film, it dives into the cliques of high school at the time and it is somewhat still definitely relatable today. It’s about clique warfare and covers the various groups that are naturally formed within that type of environment.
It’s also interesting as it follows someone that’s a fish out of water, that’s trying to just learn the ropes of regular high school life. This is with Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) who is a girl that’s been living out in the wilds of Africa her entire life. The narrative revolves around her and the transition to gaining a stance within the plastics.
These are an elitist collection of hot girls, the most well known and feared within the school. They’re pretty, and use that in various ways. While the group does have a collective element to them, Regina George (Rachel McAdams) is the lead and it’s a sort of battle between her and Cady. The others Karen (Amanda Seyfried) and Gretchen (Lacey Chabert) are more for support.
It’s neat to see, and the plot is actually filled with some interesting looks at life in that point and time for girls. It holds up today, and was an entertaining viewing again for sure. I mean, I hadn’t seen it for a number of years until this release and it was more than fine. Still had some laughs, and style to it that holds up well.
The Mean Girls Blu-Ray comes with a number of special features. These are available to view on the traditional Blu-Ray disc as one package. They include the following selections that can be viewed as a bundle or individually. "Deleted Scenes (optional commentary)”, “Commentary by Director Mark Waters, Screenwriter/Actress Tina Fey”, “Blooper Reel (Word Vomit)”, “Only the Strong Survive” and more.
There were a fair selection of extras in this one, I found the deleted scenes rather interesting. The commentary was also a nice addition to the package. I still would have liked more behind the scenes on this one, production wise and perhaps a connection to where the group is today. It certainly has some well known individuals within this one. I should also mention again that the disc case is pink, so that’s a neat stand out for this one.
The Mean Girls Blu-Ray package is a fine release if you’re a fan of this well known female driven comedy. It has a decent selection of extras on it and I appreciated the in-depth commentary that was provided. The film itself is still rather funny, and has some interesting messages within it. I believe it is still relatable to those in high school today, or well the more youthful folks out there.
The concept of cliques, how they relate and the way that females tend to treat each other in somewhat negative ways. That’s especially true, within a high school situation. Or, at least that’s how it was still when I was in that system a number of years ago at this point. Things are likely relatively the same at this point, but regardless it’s a fine movie to watch that’s backed by a fine offering of extras to watch.
