Resident Evil Death Island Blu-Ray Review

This is a rather interesting continuation and also standalone entry within the Resident Evil franchise. It follows a combined team, and sets of teams coming together to handle a fast acting infestation on Alcatraz. Hence where the subtitling of Death Island comes from.

It was actually sort of nice seeing the crew almost altogether here, kind of like an old group of friends going off to blast stuff together. It’s somewhat light on narrative but does deliver some good action. It was enjoyable, at the same time sort of just something I also watched. A nice bite of action which is probably enjoyable for those into the overall Resident Evil series.

I mean, there’s certainly some level of horror to it but certainly action and blasting through various means. Some rather exciting combative experiences as well throughout. It’s cool team wise. You get Kennedy alongside the Redfields, Jill Valentine comes along and also a little slice of Rebecca Chambers as well. It’s a comprehensive roster for this series.

Resident Evil Death Island Special Features

The Resident Evil Death Island Blu-Ray comes with a number of special features. These are available to view on the traditional Blu-Ray disc as one package. They include the following selections that can be viewed as a bundle or individually. "Genesis of Death Island”; “Motion Capture Set Tour”, “Designing Death Island”, “Jill Valentine: The Return”, “Voicing Death Island”, “The birth of Death Island” and “Design Gallery”.

There’s a solid offering here in terms of the looks behind the scenes. It was neat to get a glimpse into the motion capture work. To see the actors performing and get a look into how that runs. Furthermore it was interesting to see the chat around Jill Valentine coming back, how they wanted to give fans a glimpse at the character alongside continuing her story since it had been so long canonically. It’s a good amount of extra content for this one.

The Conclusion

The Resident Evil Death Island Blu-Ray package is a fun movie with good action, backed by some solid looks behind the scenes with the special features. I enjoyed watching this and found the extras to be insightful. Resident Evil is a fairly well known series that has had many iterations and I’ve always found these CGI realistic like movies to be interesting.

They continue the lore in various interesting ways and like I said, it was a warm feeling seeing the squad together. They used the strengths of the characters fairly well. I just wish there was a bit more story to this one. They had a neat setup going on for the enemy, but this really did feel like a tight quick little story within the overall universe.
