This is a rather interesting card based game, it features kittens and a goal of not causing an explosion. You get a wacky series of cards that feature some truly bizarre takes on the young cats, and a mix of a bomb in there as well. It turns into a bit of a hot potato type situation and that’s really neat.
Aside from trying to match regular kittens, you’ll also come across a number of special cards that alter the flow of play. This includes things such as being able to see what cards are coming, or a special defusing kit that may save your life. Matches are fairly quick to play, about fifteen minutes or less for a limited group of players. It’ll go back and forth as you select, play and then react to cards that are sent out towards battle.
It can get rather tense, and a bit silly. It’s a straight forward type of experience, it isn’t complicated and perhaps a bit simplistic quite honestly. It’s good for some quick matches, but I question the longevity of the core package. I found it got rather boring after a few rounds.
The Board/Pieces
This package is stuffed with fifty-six cards and some instructions as well. The cards have a series of really vibrant, and wacky detailed designs that feature kittens. It’s a family friendly experience, anyone can play this easily.
The cards are clear, and easy to understand without any issues. There’s not a whole lot to the packaging of this one, as it is just straight up cards with some quirky things going. Nothing like vomiting rainbows, that’s for sure.
Exploding Kittens is an easy, and fun game to play that really doesn’t have a whole lot to it. It’s simple to understand for any audience type and generally a good time. The matches are fast paced, and always feature some zany cats.
You’re never sure when that bomb is going to strike, and that keeps it fresh. I wish it was a bit more dynamic in terms of playing it, but it’s to the point which is something I appreciate. The artwork was fantastic for the cards, and there’s a fair quantity of them available within this deck.
