One of the more strange things I’ll ever review, this is basically a Where’s Waldo? sort of experience but in the form factor of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. I would say that it’s a appropriate for any type of Creed player since you’re just looking through a history book to find out where the strange individuals are located. It’s sort of a fun setup, at the same time a tad too easy since they show the exact style of which the characters are posed.
That sounds strange perhaps, but it makes it very easy for them to spot out as they tend to have more detail and the poses are so distinct that it’s quite easy to spot them. It would have been nice to have a deeper level of variation there. That being said, no matter which of the games you enjoy, you’ll find some of the characters you know.
They’ve provided something from basically each of the different games so you get to see unique locations based on each of the colorful moments of history and the various key characters that were present within them. The book also has a starting info area to understand the locales, alongside a reference guide at the end in case there is one that you can’t quite figure.
This is a fairly standard hard copy offering. It’s rectangular in nature, providing decently well detailed full page spreads of scenes. It’s got simplistic icons for understanding what you’re looking for and it seemed to capture almost the entirety of the rich Assassin’s Creed legacy.
The sets do feel fairly expansive in terms of the scope, and they offer layers to their verticality which feels similar to the games. Past that, it seemed as though the different locations were detailed and felt natural to the places I’ve visited across the different games. You get everything from France, to Ancient Egypt and maybe the odd surprise spot here or there too.
Assassin's Creed: Where's the Assassin? provides a unique franchise oriented Where’s Waldo? type of experience featuring something from every era of this long running series. It delivers a generally solid viewing time that was engaging and fun to do.
If you’re a big fan of the Creed franchise you’ll probably enjoy some of the smaller references and finding the various characters within the pages. I do wish there was a bit more of a challenge here, but it was enjoyable to seek out so many well known and perhaps also lesser known characters across the pages that were present.
