Muppets Haunted Mansion is a Disney+ Original short film that follows a specific part of the core crew with many smaller appearances from the overall cast. It gets your favorites in, has some fun with them and throws in some other funny references as well. It’s a story based around dealing with fears as the group moves through what’s basically an advertisement for the Disney ride.
It’s clever in presenting the steps of that journey in the ride throughout the film itself. This journey follows Gonzo (Dave Goelz) paired up with Pepe the King Prawn (Bill Barretta) as they attempt to make their way through this spooky environment. Their host is the fairly charming and somewhat funny in here, Will Arnett.
It’s got some other guests including the likes of Danny Trejo, Taraji P Henson and John Stamos to name a few. Guests are important to the Muppets, or well at least a fun inclusion to see as you never know who might pop up. They certainly have some fun with this one as you see many rooms, and of course some haunting delights. Keep in mind that this is for the younger audience, so there’s nothing too intensely terrifying of course.
The acting in this one is fine, most of the human components are brief with a musical jingle or some quirky bit. I mean, if you’ve watched any from this group in the past you should know what to expect there. The Muppet puppet performances are splendid as per usual, and right on pace with how they should be.
They do have fun with the group using some ghastly adjustments and costumes since it’s Halloween themed of course. This was decently shot, being lower budget in style but that was fine for what this is. The musical bits were enjoyable, it’s a fine viewing for that younger audience.
Muppets Haunted Mansion brings some spooky moments and horrifying delights that are perfect for the target audience as this highlight of Gonzo works quite well. It was an enjoyable watch with a few references that I found to be quite funny and rather charming. It should hit well for all types of audiences as that’s what this series is typically all about.
There are fun celebrity appearances, bizarre moments to fit the theme and if you’ve been through the Disneyland ride it should capture that journey fairly well. Or, at least I thought so with fears being the target of the theme in this one.
