You might wonder what exactly a "Compass" does in Minecraft and it's rather simple. These are special items that you hold in your hand to get an idea of the direction you’re headed. They will point towards a world spawn, which is likely where your house is located. They are available through natural generation or creation. In the world you can find them in Shipwreck chests, village cartographer chests and stronghold library chests in a single stack. You can also trade for these through Expert level librarian villagers which carry a 50% chance to sell a single compass for four Emeralds on Java.
This is slightly different for Bedrock as they’ll have a third of a chance to sell one for four Emeralds. For general use you’ll note the needle point facing towards the spawn point of the world. It will point here no matter where you’re looking. It’s an item in your hand, it can also be dropped on the ground or placed in various chests. You can also throw it in an item frame if you’d like, neat looking for sure. More details and crafting guide below.
