Minecraft RTX is coming along nicely and will be available in the near future for Minecraft players on Windows 10 Edition. This is of course the bedrock version of the game in case you were wondering. NVIDIA has teamed up with a number of big time creators to produce content that showcases this revolution in lighting technology.
This can be viewed below, through a number of screenshots. With the power of a GeForce RTX GPU you can get full path-traced worlds. This includes enabling reflections, shadows, caustics, global illumination and other real lighting effects. This all changes in real-time and it’s incredible to see in action.
They’ve gotten the teams of Razzleberries, BlockWords and GeminiTay to produce really interesting works to showcase this technology. In these first two screenshots you see a comparison of RTX Off and then On for “Of Temples and Totems RTX” by Razzleberries.
Description: “An adventure world focusing players on exploring and completing challenges in mysterious temples. Each temple showcases per-pixel emissivity and real-time shadows, and leverages global illumination to create an immersive experience for players.”
This next one to follow is “Crystal Palace RTX” by GeminiTay with the description; “A survival map with a whimsical fantasy theme, that features a masterfully built castle. Ray-traced shadows and beautiful atmospherics create realism in this world built on a 1:1 scale.”
Finally we have “Imagination Island RTX” by BlockWorks with the description; “A fully explorable theme park, filled with easter eggs, that hosts four distinct lands, each dedicated to an element of real-time ray tracing. In this scene we see the visitor centre of the park, highlighted by god rays cast in real-time through the windows, shining down onto the floor.”.
NVIDIA is also working on empowering Minecraft creators with support for delivering this technology, and for converting Java worlds to RTX worlds. They’re providing guides and more to assist in producing content to showcase what this technology can do.
We’ll have more information to provide once it’s released. For now, check out our preview of this in action from CES 2020 below, or check out the general Minecraft hub for additional coverage of the title.
