You might wonder what exactly the "Riptide" does in Minecraft and it's rather simple. It is used exclusively with Tridents in order to give them the ability to burst through the water. This will offer a form of transportation, with the high end Riptide enhancement sending you flying through the water while you hold onto it.
A neat tip is to use it while underwater to look up above and launch yourself flying out of the water and far into the air. It's basically a replacement for the throwing action, taking you with it. If you're using this ability and you run into another mob while in motion, it will deal damage to that mob. It basically makes you a bit of an underwater tank and it can be useful for aquatic combat.
Uses and Other Details:
If you're not in the water, or if it's not raining the ability will do nothing. It is interesting that there's a use for it when it's raining though. The Riptide is mutually exclusive with Loyalty and Channeling. That being said, the latter is not exclusive with the former.
There are three natural levels present and the Riptide is an enchantment. That means you'll need an enchantment table in order to create this effect on the Trident weapon.
