Living in Canada, particularly Calgary to be exact I’m very fortunate to have access and close proximity to some lovely places. I often go for walks, hikes and the like to take in the nature of the surrounding region.

It’s an interesting connection when diving into this short film titled “Losing Blue”. It’s a cinematic poem that casually splashes the audience with the idea of losing the otherworldly aesthetic that we take for granted within our local lakes and rivers.

The loss of a well planned feed of glacier ice into iconic bodies of water that we often like to visit. The idea of climate change rapidly changing this process and the environmental shifts around it. The further concept of what if we lost these special sights, if they were gone forever.

What we have here is essentially a very ASMR like voice over, at least on the English speaking side of things that goes through elegant yet brief details of gorgeous terrain. You get some stunning vista shots of the mountains within Alberta. Some really nice natural looks at the beauty of the region and it was charming to take in.

Peaceful, calm and majestic with a striking chat being discussed within the voice over. It’s a very interesting way to display this sort of idea, though perhaps at the same time more detailed notes also could have hit the point home further. Still, this is a good way to display the concepts of climate change without having to be so direct to an audience that likely has heard much about it over the years.

The Conclusion

Losing Blue is a gorgeous; ASMR poem to the beauty of the blues in the world we take for granted, particularly those lovely views we get to enjoy in Canada’s incredible lakes. The beauty of nature is ever changing, and it’s easy to forget that an impact could easily remove something so many enjoy and get lost in.

I really liked the presentation of this and what they were going for. There are some stunning shots and locations here that even outside of the context of the message are a delight to take in. It’s a slow showcase, though rewarding if you find this sort of visual showcase inspiring or even intriguing.
