My Little Pony: The Movie Review

My Little Pony is a thrilling new take on the cartoon fantasy of the same name, made mainly just for the kids. The My Little Pony franchise has been around since 1981. My Little Pony is a harrowing tale of Princess Twilight Sparkle (voiced by Tara Strong) and her friends; Rainbow Dash (voiced by Ashleigh Ball), Pinky Pie (voiced by Andrea Libman) and Captain Celaeno (voiced by Zoe Saldana) to name a few; to stop The Storm King (voiced by Liev Schreiber) and his wicked sidekick, Tempest Shadow (voiced by Emily Blunt) from stopping the Festival of Friendship and harvesting the four pony princesses power to make the ultimate storm.

My Little Pony’s animation was good. With a mix of 2d animation for the backdrops which were fully finished with every detail, and 3d animation for the characters. The voice acting felt natural and matched when the lips were moving, to get rid of that delay feeling, that seems to be common as of late. I was really impressed with how well mixing the two types of animations turned out, it is a tough task to do. The soundtrack to My Little Pony was amazing, every time a song played it fit in right. With a fitting cameo from Sia, the soundtrack could not have been better for the film.

Having never seen or knowing anything about My Little Pony prior to viewing, I felt the film did not do a good job at introducing viewers to the franchise. I was confused the whole time about who was who, and what was going on.

It would have helped to get at least some minor introductions to the group, but fans will probably like that it skips over these details and gets right into things. The story telling seems to flow with enough pace to keep the viewers watching, but not enough to keep them on the edge of their seats. The film put in enough jokes and adult manner into it to try to make it bearable to watch if you’re older.

The Conclusion

My Little Pony is a fun, and silly kid centric film about making friendships and how you can do anything you can set your mind to. With good animations and an alright story to kind of follow along with My Little Pony: The Movie wraps up rather quick once it gets going.

With a lack luster final battle and a very predictable ending, My Little Pony leaves the fans wanting for more. If you are looking a movie to take your kid to, this would be the film. Just remember anything is possible with the power of friendship.
