Scrawl Review

Sometimes I watch a movie, and really wonder the direction that I’m taking with my life. Like, what were they hoping to achieve with this? Scrawl is the type of movie that you wouldn’t understand what was happening in it if you didn’t read the synopsis prior to viewing it, or perhaps a review like this one.

This narrative apparently involves a special comic book where things that are written start happening. This whole aspect doesn’t come into play until very far into the movie, and it’s hard to make the connections as the scenes don’t really match the book. There are strange, visions, that appear throughout. I’m not sure what they have to do with anything, or if they were visions to be honest.

There are also many parts of this that make no sense, and I was constantly wondering what exactly was going on, constantly. Things get a bit more intense later on, but even that was just nonsense and in general nothing makes sense in this at all. It was also weird that someone died and they just wouldn’t spit it out to others, awful.

The movie was hard to follow, I felt that they didn’t even bother to introduce characters. There were many individuals present, I didn’t know anyone by name. The acting was bad, the shots seemed to be in a random order and it was hard to watch.

This might gather some interest being what I believe is Daisy Ridley’s first film role, and she’s alright. There’s not a whole lot for her to work with, and her character appears randomly. I thought I should mention how she’s involved, not in this for a very long time. The side characters felt pointless, there was weird camera pictures being taken and the lead was just strange here.

I wasn’t sure what the point of anything in this was, it was just terrible. I suppose I could say it was shot decently, but it was maybe not even average. I guess this was horror focused, not really scary and just had some gore that appeared in random situations.

The Conclusion

Scrawl is a pointless watch, nothing makes sense and there’s no entertainment to be had here. It makes me think about being more cautious with my screening reviews, my time has some value. I’m not sure what they were going for with this, and unless you read details about what’s going beforehand you’ll have no idea what’s happening.

Even having read the synopsis I was puzzled as to what was going for the majority of this. It was jumbled; incoherent, poorly acted and just completely random the whole time through. It’s hard to watch, really not worth your time. I’d say it’s just an awful experience that should be avoided to watch any other movie option. I’m also still puzzled, what do the scouts have to do with any of it!
