Seed Review

This is a short film following two men that are living on what’s noted as a “trash planet”. They’re feral to a degree I suppose as they certainly engage in some unique activities while together that will appear rather adult in nature for those viewing. They walk along the majestic natural backdrop gathering things and trying to find enough food to survive.

It’s at one point they come across this odd sort of strange seed, and they bring it back. Things continue and they decide to see if they can grow it. It slowly becomes this strange animated creature with feelings and seemingly endless growth that builds itself towards one wild endless sprout.

It’s actually quite well shot despite being very simple in scope. The open mountainous backdrop adds a lot and there’s enough junk out there to sort of sell what they’re aiming to present.

I particularly loved the bizarre animated creature over top of things that sort of added this wacky out of this world component to the short. They did a really good job with the creature, there’s some good emotion in there and some odd moments that happen.

The Conclusion

Seed is really quite out there and a lot wilder than I had anticipated with the wacky creature really making it all come together. I really wasn’t sure how I felt about this one as it started out but as the critter began to expand it really felt special. They certainly did deliver on the quirky creature while making it feel alive with a bit more intelligence than one might expect.

It was also neat that the director was in attendance so it added some detail into what I was experiencing. An interesting little venture about five minutes or so in length so it goes by quick and is tight in presentation.
