The wacky adventures of the Looney Tunes continues with a feature length film focused on two of the quirky bunch. That being Daffy Duck (Eric Bauza) and Porky Pig (Eric Bauza) that are brought up by this rather distinctive farmer in brief montage. In the present the two are now older and our great farmer pal has said farewell leaving outwards to the clouds.
The duo are about to lose their house that was inherited and this kick starts the two on a journey to finding jobs. It’s a montage moment of wacky attempts that leave the two in a situation where they eventually are having to deal with an alien invasion. It’s a weird twist of events, but it makes sense when you’re watching.
It’s an interesting narrative that shows elements of growth and of course the usual charm of the characters with some really well done plot points along the way. It has some truly incredible twists to it that completely caught me off guard and some strangely scary bits including something that I could only describe as being from The Thing in terms of horror. It’s neat, story wise and I quite enjoyed the way this played out.
The visual experience here really felt in tune with traditional 2D animation, a rare sight for the big screen these days. It was vibrant, bizarre and dare I say a little Looney while still being very well presented. It’s got the usual big musical bits you’d expect from an invasion.
The performances here were excellent as the out there Invader (Peter MacNicol) had quite a zany presence as did the new sparkle of the eye for Porky, Petunia Pig (Candi Milo). There were some fun character dynamics between the core group as they dealt with this invasion of aliens!
It is of course something meant for the younger ones aside from the scary area although I did have some more laughs in my theaters than the younger ones at some of the moments. At the same time I’m not sure the humor fully hit as there were many quieter parts throughout.
The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a really well done, fun adventure for Daffy Duck and Porky Pig to be on as they fend off the alien invaders! I found the film to have some surprisingly well done twists throughout and good surprises.
I feel that it should hit fine with the younger audiences viewing and the older ones will enjoy some of that silly moments. I did get a tad bored as the film progressed however, I do feel it was well done. I just do definitely feel that as I age I’m less the target audience for this sort of thing.
Whatever the case, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig were fun together with the inclusion of Petunia being a fun switch up. Certainly a worthwhile viewing for fans of the Looney Tunes or just those that enjoy classic 2D animation.
