This is a Netflix Original animated series that is all about a boy named Max (Liam Mitchell) that ends up having a best friend and pet in the form of Sharkdog (Dee Bradley Baker). That’s right, Sharkdog. Half shark, half dog, all appetite. Anyways, it’s a for all audiences type of experience where the duo alongside some additional friends go about on adventures trying to keep this special animal a secret. There are of course some trying to hunt the friendly individual, and that’s the just of the story.

It’s not anything too deep, but it does actually contain some decent morals and teachings that were applicable for the younger ones. In all honesty I got a chuckle or two out of this one and found it strangely fine in terms of being enjoyable. It’s quite simplistic, but the absurdity of the creature was just funny enough for me to sit through this one. I do feel the young ones will absolutely love this one.

The animation work here is rather basic, but it delivers some sharp looking characters and emulates a regular world quite well. I liked the quirky look of the Sharkdog. The movement was quite funny as things get frantic and this critter is always wanting to snack on literally everything.

There were a decent variety of scenes that are visited alongside the straight forward housing setup. It’s just fairly simple visually, clearly being a lower budget offering animation wise and yet at the same time it suffices for this one. It hits the mark there. The voice acting was fine from the team as well, with Sharkdog’s voice being downright hilarious with minimal voice usage.

The Conclusion

Sharkdog Season 1 delivers a solid offering for the younger audience that will have you going; Sharkdog, half shark, half dog, all appetite. Look, it’s not necessarily the most incredible work of art for the younger audience but it’s engaging and I found it funny at times. It’s simplistic animation wise, but it hits the mark fine to be clean enough to easily enjoy.

The voice acting is fine and I found the stories that were present here to be fine with basic teachings that are something of value for the target audience. It’s enjoyable, what else can I really say about this one. It’s easily consumable and sign me up for some more of this Sharkdog action!
