This is a Netflix Original series sketch show that follows Iliza Schlesinger as she goes about with wild antics. It attempts to provide a number of fast paced segments in order to generate some laughs. I can’t however personally say I found anything in this funny. It was sort of just noise as I experienced it, which is certainly disappointing.

I could see that some segments might appeal to different audiences but this didn’t hit the mark for me at all. I also find that this is more focused on the American market, so some of the references just might not be right for me. That aside, there are a number of wacky characters and odd transitions in the style of what one would consider shopping around the reality TV channels.

There seemed to be some social commentary, again being something that might appeal to those from the United States more. I’m actually not sure if I even laughed once, and it’s not a good sign when you have to think about the times you laughed during a comedic sketch show. I don’t think I have the highest bar for comedies, and this one was particularly just unfunny.

I feel that the writing was a bit weak in this, or that certain segments were stretched out past their potential quick deliveries. Sometimes the little bits felt as though they kept going and going, with later portions referencing earlier ones. It felt like this somewhat short series of episodes went on for an eternity being best served as background noise.

Again, I guess I could see the appeal where some spots might make others laugh. They also don’t hold back in regards to the bits and the characters. I think there’s some value there, and someone that finds this comedic funny or has seen their other work might find value in it.

This is my first time watching this comedian perform in any measure, and I likely won’t watch anymore based on this. It’s also really hard to remember anything that stood out, it sort of blends together like an ultra bland meal you eat just to keep alive another day. You’re never fulfilled by it, and just want to get past the experience.

The Conclusion

The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show Season 1 isn’t very funny, I didn’t laugh a single time and it was basically a jumbled mess. I can maybe see the appeal for some of the content in this, and I didn’t turn it off being able to get through it. I suppose that fans of this comedian might enjoy some of the bits, and the characters certainly didn’t hold up for any of the roles.

It’s quite goofy, which might come across as charming to some. The more I try to think of memorable parts of this show, the harder it is to come up with anything that stood out to me. It wasn’t at all memorable, and I’ll go on in life likely forgetting about this one entirely. I didn’t find any value in watching it, but thinking about it from another perspective some might be interested or get a laugh or two out of it.
