Age of Empires: Definitive Edition hopefully has finally received its definitive final release date after getting a fair bit of a delay. The game was originally set to launch in Fall 2017, but was pushed back. It's now set to release February 20, 2018 worldwide on Windows 10 PC. The pricing will be $19.99 USD. You will however have a chance to jump in early as there will be a multiplayer beta on January 29, 2018. The general goal of the remaster was to keep the authentic feel of the original game from twenty years ago while updating the presentation and adding many modern elements to the experience. This includes core enhancements and many quality of life touches.
Improvements include a completely fresh set of graphics making the game perfect for the 4k presentation of modern platforms. In addition to LAN play there's also the option to play over Xbox Live. The soundtrack has been completely re-recorded with a new orchestral score. Each mission in the campaign will feature narration and there are enhancements to the campaign editor with the option to easily share creations with others online. Fans of the series will be eager to once again clash across the battlefields of old in this classic definitive version of the RTS title. It will be the first in a series of remasters for each game in the franchise and then lead towards Age of Empires IV.
