The Calgary International Film Festival 2018 Gala and Full Line-up revealed this week with this year's selection being a strong one. Things start off big at the opening gala which features "The Sisters Brothers", a film that is directed by Jacques Audiard, with an all star cast of John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Riz Ahmed and Jake Gyllenhaal. It will screen at the Jack Singer Concert Hall on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:30 pm. The Gala party will be held afterward at Bottlescrew Bills, open to ticket holders but subject to capacity.
This, the 19th Annual Calgary International Film Festival has 178 films in its full lineup. This includes shorts, features, and collaboration screenings. This year the festival enjoyed a record breaking 1912 paid submissions, compared with 1598 last year. Thirty-Two films have a first time feature director. Approximately 30% of all booked features are Canadian (32 out of 103 total features). Fifty-Six films at the festival have a female director.
Some of the initial films announced are; Of Fathers and Sons, I'll Take Your Dead, Long Day's Journey Into the Night, We the Dead (AQÉRAT) and The Woman Who Loves Giraffes. These are just some of the large offering of films present during the festival. Sales are now live on the official site. The Eau Claire Box Office will open on September 14 and this year’s festival runs from September 19 – September 30, 2018.
