With The Coalition announcing a transition to Unreal Engine 5 as their primary development tool set, the announcement for the end of Gears 5 updates has come alongside it. This is according to “TC Shauny”, the Senior Community Manager for the franchise on Twitter.
It’s noted that ”Operation 8 is the last Operation, there will be stuff to do in-game, services will continue to run and we’ll have a Tour of Duty that’ll continually refresh”. That confirms future support for the game in terms of making sure it runs well, but that it’s at the end of its life run.
It’s also noted that Xbox Achievements and medals will continued to be tied to Operations releases and more info will arrive over the releases of the upcoming Operations.
While this entry in the series has almost run its course, it’s expected that The Coalition is actively working on Gears 6 among other new IP for the Xbox brand with more details on that to arrive at some point in the future.
