While we had previously written news about the end of new content for Gears of War 4, additional elements will be changing with support up until 2020. The Coalition has mentioned the following; “We’re incredibly product of what Gears 4 achieved, and how our time together with the community over the past three years has shaped what Gears 5 has become. Thank you truly, deeply, for all your support since October 2016. It’s meant the world to us.”
Then we get details in regards to how support is going to be dwindling, with certain elements of the online play changing. The current ranked season of play will continue through to January 2020. At that point, the vast majority of the game’s population will have moved to Gears 5.
With that, all Ranked aspects of play will be removed from the game. In its place will be new playlists across Core and Competitive. These playlists will have relaxed latency and skill rating rules for matchmaking to make matches as quick as possible. All quit penalties will be removed. There will also be no new events in the game, all will have ended.
If you’re wondering about the special Midnight Omen and Flaming Weapon skins, new opportunities will arise to get them. In order to ensure that the “Better Than Bacon” and “I Like Em Crispy” achievements are unlockable without the event support needed to earn them. You’ll then be able to craft the skins in a playlist update that launches in January 2020.
They will also be looking at introducing a new permanent XP boost across the game, but there are no promises in that regard. You can read about why this is going to be a grand year for the franchise below or check out the hub to see additional coverage.
