Hawken Shut Down on PC, Staying Up on Consoles

Hawken, a free to play mech based shooter has seen its final days on PC. The game's servers have been shut down as the developers want to refocus their development efforts. The entire game was removed from Steam PC on January 2, 2018 including regular access, DLC or any other digital content. It was also noted by the developers that while no details are currently available, they may make the factors as to why this shut down was performed sometime in the future.

The reason behind not making the game available through open source is due to mostly cost, according the developer "We unfortunately do not have the bandwidth to extract the source code from the media services". To the side of that, the game is still available on Xbox One and Playstation 4 for the foreseeable future. It was noted multiple times that there are no current plans to remove the game from console platforms so it may stay up for some time. Whatever the case, after a title is removed from one location it's best for players to wrap up any loose ends in case it does vanish from every store. That's just a note of caution from observing other similar shut downs.
