While taking the Smash Summit 9 Championship, HungryBox took the big moment to call out Nintendo for their lack of support of the eSports scene. This was of course done in a very gracious and respective way.

Not necessarily noting older titles, but at least hoping to gain support in terms of resources for at least Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. A key quote from his speech included ”Nintendo, I need to say, I love you guys but you are the only one not putting resources into the scene”.

It is worth noting that other publishers are aggressively pushing the eSports scene. The various fighter focused game companies are backing their titles such as Capcom. You’re also seeing that from Xbox with Gears of War and Halo. Playstation with Call of Duty and many other third party titles.

It’s a very common thing nowadays, with Nintendo not seemingly at all being interested in sponsoring or working to promote these types of competitive events. They of course don’t have to, but it’s definitely an extra sort of pressure to hear this from long terms supporters of their titles. Thank you @LiquidHbox for saying what we're all thinking.

It is long past time that Nintendo supports Smash esports. pic.twitter.com/5jhe1oYJUK
