While at E3 2019 I was able to attend the Xbox Showcase press event, while there some developers behind Madden NFL 20 were present. I was chatting with them during a demo of the game and had a number of questions about this entry. With the next generation of consoles being rumored for 2020 I was curious if this year’s release would be a cross-generational title as some sports games have been in the past. I was told that the team is focused on optimizing and polishing the game for the current generation of consoles.
This includes enhancements for the Xbox One X and Playstation 4 platforms. They are not currently interested in preparing for the Xbox Scarlett and Playstation 5, with that being a goal for Madden NFL 2021. That means they’re looking forward to the extra power on the horizon, or so I was told and not doing so at the current moment. This makes sense for the release schedule of consoles during the holiday season and this football simulation releasing during the summer. You can read our preview of this year’s release below from the show, and the general hub for coverage of this EA Sports title.
