During the Calgary Expo 2025 we were able to have a chat with the male voice actor of Commander Shepard for the Mass Effect trilogy, Mark Meer. There were various questions going over his career in games from Jade Empire to Dragon Age and of course Mass Effect. The question was framed about a return for Mass Effect 4.

“Well you know I agree, but only under any circumstances. I will say that if I knew anything I could not say but I don't know anything. I will say that I will play it when it comes out, I'll look forward to it and if they ask me to be in it I will gladly play.”

The return of Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 4 has been a hot topic among fans, with speculation running wild about whether the legendary protagonist will make a comeback. Mark Meer, the voice behind the male Shepard has expressed her enthusiasm for reprising the role, but he has yet to receive confirmation from BioWare or EA regarding involvement. It’ll be interesting to see if a reprisal does happen on either the male or female Shepard (Jennifer Hale) happens down the road.

The ending of Mass Effect 3 left Shepard’s fate uncertain, with multiple possible outcomes being plausible. The Destroy ending, which eliminates all synthetic life, offers a glimmer of hope that Shepard survived, as evidenced by a brief scene showing them taking a breath amidst the wreckage. This has led many to believe that Mass Effect 4 could canonize this ending, paving the way for Shepard’s return. Anyways, the full interview is below alongside other articles.
